If you were to describe yourself to someone who has never seen you, what would you say? My nose is too big, eyes too small or close together, hate my chin, too many wrinkles on my forehead- you know how we love to focus in on our imperfections. What if someone drew a sketch of you, based solely on how you describe yourself? How close would it be to how you actually look? Dove completed a study where they did just that. They had the forensic sketch artist for the San Jose Police Department come in sketch several women. Each woman would describe themselves to him, and he would draw their face. Then he did a second sketch of each woman based on someone else’s description. The difference between the two sketches is remarkable, and the women’s reactions are awesome. Here’s the video:
After watching this, it really made me think about how hard we can be on ourselves. We are quick to focus on something we don’t like about ourselves and let the negative self talk sink in. We really need to watch what we say about ourselves, not just for us, but its something we teach our daughters without even trying. Try to notice how you talk about yourself in front of your kids. They will pick up on it. Embrace your body, love yourself, and you will be better for it.
That being said, I have to share the GUY PARODY of this video as well. I love anything with a sense of humor and I have to admit this is pretty funny! So, for the life lesson… stick with the woman’s version above, and for a laugh today, here ya go:
Tell me what you thought of the videos. Were you surprised in the differences between the first and second sketches? Does it make you think twice about how you describe yourself?
Why are guys and girls so different? Let me know what you think!! Make it a great day!
